Grow-out Culture of the Bay Scallop

چکیده
Attempts at private aquaculture enterprises resulted in few success stories until 1983, when twenty-six scallops survived a shipment to China and were spawned successfully. From this humble beginning, Chinese bay scallop aquaculture yielded 300,000 metric tons of product in 1998, grown on 7,000 hectares of embayment. The Chinese bay scallop has since been readily available in U.S. markets at a much lower price than the wild domestic product (Figure 2). In the U.S., the first and only successful bay scallop culture enterprise is run by Taylor Seafood of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. The limited success of scallop aquaculture in the US has been attributed to high labor costs and winter mortalities associated with the “grow-out” phase of the culture cycle. Evaluating the Potential of Bivalve Scallop (Bivalvia: Pectinidae: Scallop) in Biofiltration of Wastewater in Shrimp Farms from Guowater Bay, Chabahar
In this study, the Scallop bivalves were used for biofiltration of wastewater in shrimp farms during spring 2018 from Guowater Bay. Sedimentation, biological and aeration ponds were prepared for biofiltration around the main pool, then, oyster bivalves were collected from natural environment (sea) and were placed in these pools. Concentration of quality parameters were investigated in four samp...
متن کاملHabitat Affects Survival of Translocated Bay Scallops, Argopecten irradians concentricus (Say 1822), in Lower Chesapeake Bay
Bay scallop (Argopecten irradians) populations existed in Chesapeake Bay until 1933, when they declined dramatically due to a loss of seagrass habitat. Since then, there have been no documented populations within the Bay. However, some anecdotal observations of live bay scallops within the lower Bay suggest that restoration of the bay scallop is feasible. We therefore tested whether translocate...
متن کاملMyofibril of the Bay Scallop, Aequipecten irradians
Localization and quantification studies were carried out on bay-scallop (Aequipecten irradians) striated-muscle troponin Cand troponin I-like proteins. Indirect immunofluorescence microscopy of scallop myofibrils stained with either rabbit anti-(scallop troponin I) or anti-(scallop troponin C) antibodies shows staining of all I-bands observed. The results of quantification studies using sodium ...
متن کاملAntioxidant response of the variegated scallop (Chlamys varia) under anthropogenic impact
The variegated scallop (Chlamys varia L.) is an important economic resource in the aquaculture sector in Spain. The aim of the present study was to determine the oxidative status of C. varia, exposed to anthropogenic activities in waters of the Mallorca Island (Western Mediterranean). Specimens were collected from two locations attending to a different degree of human impact. The first station ...
متن کاملGenetic linkage map of bay scallop, Argopecten irradians irradians (Lamarck 1819)
The bay scallop (Argopecten irradians irradians Lamarck 1819) has become one of the most important aquaculture species in China. Genetic improvement of cultured bay scallop can bene¢t greatly from a better understanding of its genome. In this study, we developed ampli¢ed fragment length polymorphisms (AFLPs) and simple sequence repeat markers from expressed sequence tags (EST-SSRs) for linkage ...
